Threadless in Wine Country

A few weeks ago, I traveled south to San Luis Obispo to go wine tasting with some awesome peeps from Threadless.

Maybe it’s like wearing a band’s t-shirt to see their concert, but I don’t care – I totally wore one of my Threadless tees. It’s one of their classics: 99 Luftballons by Ross Zietz. I just styled it my way: with a full skirt, wide belt, and fun flats. :)

I also did my nails. (For once! Of course, I painted them in the car ride down from San Francisco.)

I was inspired by manicures I’d seen on Pinterest & style blogs – a solid color with glittery tips. And I wasn’t the only one with that idea! The lovely Julia (an artist who’s been printed loads of times on Threadless) had painted her nails in a similar way.

But the trip was about so much more than just clothes and nails (yes, there *is* something more to life!). It was about wine tasting:

All in all, a shockingly good time!

California Dreams

We had another sunny, spring-like day! So I chose my outfit accordingly: a cornflower blue skirt, yellow tee, and colorful accessories.

The color combos reminded me of how I used to think of California, especially given that my perception of California was heavily influenced by shows like Saved by the Bell. Lots of bright, sunny colors and all that!

Rocky’s leash and collar, in particular, have that whole mid-90s southern California vibe, with their neon colors and bold pattern.

And I had to add in one more photo of just Rocky, because he really is the star of the show & it’s been too long since his last appearance!

Isn't Rocky swoon-worthy?

Scarlet and Sky

One of my favorite color combos is vivid red and light blue. So in celebration of a gorgeous, warm San Francisco day, I threw together a fun outfit featuring that combo — but to be honest, I wasn’t planning on taking outfit photos.

Until I ended up with this fantastic hairpiece that just happened to match.

Outfit and hairpiece.

I won it at the ModCloth Post Holiday Party, in a silent auction benefitting the Milo Foundation. The hairpiece was made by Mini, the Design Manager at ModCloth and also the mastermind behind Design by Mini. I didn’t realize I’d be getting it the day I wore this outfit, but I guess some things are just meant to be. :)

And then when Santina and I went out to take photos, we happened across an old-school, sky-blue Mercedes-Benz.

I need to start buying cars to match my outfit. ;)

Kinda awesome, isn’t it? (If it had a convertible roof, it’d be perfect!)

(Rocky, however, is less impressed.)

And blue seemed to be the color of the day, because we also found a cool aqua-hued bike chained to a bench.

Alas, bikes to match my outfits are *somewhat* more in my price-range.

So, it wasn’t my original plan to take outfit photos (since the main components of this outfit have been featured in other posts), but I was pretty happy that the fascinator convinced me otherwise. :)

Geeky Chic

You might already know that I’m a data analyst. And I love what I do: working with numbers, problem solving, extracting insights from data reports and statistical analysis – it’s totally fun!

Yes, I’m a nerd.

One additional piece of evidence of my nerdiness: I adore Doctor Who. So much so that when I found a Doctor Who themed t-shirt on Threadless, I just had to have it!

The shirt is called “TARDamask” and features Doctor Who’s iconic blue police box in a damask pattern. Brilliant!

I paired it with this sweet black knit a-line skirt – made super fun ’cause it’s got a big satin bow! And because I love color, I wore magenta tights and bright yellow earrings and bracelet.

It was a clear, beautiful night in the city. The atmosphere seemed appropriate for Doctor Who, so I dragged my husband out to take photos. I kinda can’t believe how lucky we are to live in this gorgeous city, where it’s mild enough in the winter to get away with short sleeves at night (at least during a photoshoot!).

So there it is, a blatant display of nerdiness in a wonderful city that has become a mecca for nerds. Le geek, c’est chic!
